An Open Door
We have to make a decision.
Both paths lead toward the future, a place uncharted and unknown. Each is well lit, and seem to be going in a God-pleasing direction. Picking one over the other wouldn't be a bad decision. Both are excellent options. What does one do? Where does one turn? Standing there, staring at the two open portals, we are compelled to move forward. Remaining at the crossroads forever isn't an option. Time continues. It inches us closer to the doors, forcing us to lean forward, gently pushing us, then finally shoving us. Time is running out! A decision must be made! Unless we want Time to barrel us right through the wall... Maybe that's an option...
Is time the driving force here? No, it's merely an aid for the true director of our lives. The Lord is the stronghold of our lives. He guides our path and secures our feet on sure ground. His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Where can we look? Where can we turn? To His Word. God is always faithful. He keeps all of His promises. What are some of those promises? He promises to never leave us nor forsake us. He promises He has a plan for us, a plan for our good, a plan to give us hope and a future. He promises to give us rest and strength.
Psalm 73:22-26
I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you. Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
We look to Scripture for wisdom and guidance. We pray and ask the Lord to guide our steps. We step forward in faith, knowing the Lord goes with us. We cling to the ultimate promise that God gives us: You are forgiven. You are mine. I will bring you home. Does this tell me which door to walk through? No, but it does tell me where I'm headed. Home. Each door is one more until the gates of Heaven. And do I walk this road alone? Absolutely not. My Father is with me every step of the way.
